The popular Koreanovela ‘My Love from the Star’ returns to GMA, this time as a ‘throwbackserye’.
Due to popular demand, the Kapuso network decided to once again re-air ‘My Love from the Star’, which stars Jun Ji-Hyun and Kim Soo-hyun. The re-airing of the said Koreanovela begins this Monday, at the same time as the premiere of ABS-CBN’s remake of ‘Inday Bote’.
‘My Love from the Star’ first aired on GMA from April 21 to June 27, 2014, opposite Julia Barretto’s debut teleserye ‘Mirabella’. The Koreanovela fared well enough in both Kantar and AGB Nielsen that GMA decided to re-air the series every Sunday morning, during the months of May, June and July.
Unfortunately for the Kapuso network, ABS-CBN quickly turned the tables soon after ‘My Love from the Star’ concluded. The Kapamilya network made up for the shortcomings of ‘Mirabella’ by airing ‘Pure Love’ and then ‘Bagito’, in the process regaining its foothold on the sunset slot.
Meanwhile, GMA’s local series ‘My BFF’, ‘Seasons of Love’ and ‘Elemento’ failed to maintain the momentum of ‘My Love from the Star’. Not even Koreanovelas like ‘Prime Minister and I’ and ‘Future’s Choice’ kept the timeslot’s fortunes from slipping off GMA’s grasp.
As a result, GMA made a crucial decision. Still feeling the throwback Asianovela high after all those months, GMA decided to bring back ‘My Love from the Star’, even though it had only been a year since it first aired.
Now GMA must hope that ‘My Love from the Star’ will fare well again in the same manner as ‘Meteor Garden’ on ABS-CBN. But it won’t be easy this time around, not when the Kapamilya network’s new teleserye ‘Inday Bote’ has proven stars in Alex Gonzaga and Matteo Guidicelli to lean upon.
It will be an interesting battle between the two series that begins this Monday at 5:45 p.m., so good luck.
again? sana kumuha na lang ang GMA ng ibang korean show. mababa din kasi yung ratings ng Prime minister and I sa Korea, pati yung Future’s choice. oh well good luck to them
PS. i really like this blog. keep it up!
I think this is a bad decision to re-air My Love from the Star on its original timeslot, considering si Alex Gonzaga na magaling umarte noon sa Pure Love ang kalaban nila this time.
These are the moves that make GMA so desperate for many years now, and kung matalo itong MLFTS sa Inday Bote, that will shatter their confidence even more.
GMA is now getting more desperate dahil sa bad programming decisions.
Dalawa lang ngayon ang Asianovela nila, compared sa apat ng GMA, and they use the space to produce more local programs.
hmmm, maybe too soon. GMA is clearly running out of options.
One desperate move after another. Sayang na ang GMA.
Yung bright spot na lang nila is daytime and news. The rest, wala.
My Love from the Star has a few episodes. Baka naman handa na sila for the upcoming Willie Revillame’s new show on GMA 7.Maybe they put it on late afternoon slot, replacing 2 Koreanovela shows.
Not exactly. Sundays daw ang bagong show ni Willie, out of respect to Eat Bulaga. As it stands, their content on Afternoon Prime and Telebabad won’t be tweaked; teleseryes pa rin sa hapon at gabi tuwing weekdays.
Future’s Choice (official English title by KBS: Marry Him If You Dare) had better ratings than Prime Minister and I in Korea… The Filipino dub of Future’s Choice, one month from its premiere on GMA, has allegedly reached episode 6 of the original version. (I smell a repeat of the situation with Padam Padam here…)
rechie, MLFTS aired for 21 episodes in Korea and originally for 50 episodes in the Philippines. MLFTS has avid fans within GMA itself. Last week it trended on Twitter, sparking discussion of a possible remake. But the end result instead? Rerun!
In other HOA News, Empress Ki will end in a few weeks but no replacement has announced so far by GMA.
Imposible yung sinasabi mong 6 episodes lang in one month for Future’s Choice. Kung six episodes lang in a month, e di dapat slow-motion sana yung nangyari. Eh hindi e. The total episode count for that series was 16, and the lengthy commercial breaks ensured na 20 episodes ang Future’s Choice which ran from February 16 to March 13 of this year, so I don’t think GMA will ever stretch an entire month just for the six episodes.
The MLFTS rerun will have a tougher challenge this time around, dahil Inday Bote ni Alex Gonzaga ang katapat nila. GMA knows all too well about the star power Alex brings. After all, yung Pure Love ni Alex ang nagpabagsak sa My BFF, Seasons of Love at Elemento noong umere ito last year. And those teleseryes came after MLFTS, so it’s a shame that GMA failed to keep the momentum of MLFTS in their succeeding teleseryes.
At hintayin natin yung kapalit ng Empress Ki, dahil ‘in a few weeks’ pa naman yung ending nito.
Had to butt in. GMA showed “Future’s Choice/Mi-rae’s Choice” for only four weeks. The first six episodes (70 minutes each) were shown during the first three weeks (15 episodes of 40 minutes each), which is standard for Korean dramas aired in the Philippines because of the differing formats.
Then, they crammed the remaining 10 episodes (x 70 minutes) into the last five (x 45 minutes), just so they can speed it up and make way for “My Love From the Stars” rerun and show it against “Inday Bote.” That should give you more context as to just how desperate GMA is.
Yeah, I watched the drama. Nice concept but it very obviously fell victim to the fans of Jung Yong-hwa.
Even the unfair art of editing foreign dramas is also becoming a negative trait of GMA’s. It can be recalled that rival ABS-CBN did the same thing to its Latinovelas, the most recent of which (Ana Manuela) was heavily edited and cut short.
hopefully they won’t make a pinoy version. i am a fan of MLFTS, for me walang may star power kagaya ng lead stars ang taas din ng rating nito sa Korea and China.
Indeed.
