Animes Return to ABS-CBN, But Problems Still Persist

ABS-CBN’s Team Animazing is back, but more problems await them.

Just one week into its run, ABS-CBN abruptly decided to remove the volleyball-themed anime ‘Haikyuu!!’ from the Umaganda lineup. In its place was the re-run of ‘Wansapanatym”s ‘My App Boyfie’, which currently airs as part of the seasonal version of ‘Wansapanatym’ called ‘WansapanaSummer’.

The pullout of ‘Haikyuu!!’ leaves ‘Naruto Shippuden’ as the lone remaining anime on the Umaganda block. The latter now airs after ‘Kris TV’, displacing the Filipino-dubbed Nickelodeon cartoon ‘Spongebob Squarepants’ in the process.

This sudden decision by ABS-CBN left anime fans boiling with anger. Reactions were overwhelmingly negative on social media, with some netizens questioning the motives behind ABS-CBN’s puzzling move.

Though ABS-CBN did promise to air ‘Haikyuu!!’ on a new timeslot soon (along with a new season of ‘Kuroko’s Basketball’), the bad blood over the pullout remains fresh from the minds of the Kapamilya anime fans. It was an unwise move on the part of ABS-CBN, simply because of the wrong timing surrounding the change.

The ‘Haikyuu!!’ row was the latest in a series of discouraging decisions involving ‘Team Animazing’. Just recently, ABS-CBN temporarily pulled out ‘Team Animazing’ in favor of Japanese adaptations of classic stories such as ‘Princess Sarah’, Cedie: Ang Munting Prinsipe’ and ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’.

For Kapamilya anime fans, the situation is simply demoralizing.

Things will only get worse once the NBA playoffs begin. ABS-CBN is expected air some playoff games on a delayed basis within the next two months, so anime fans will have to wait a little bit longer.

Right now, though, the pain of ‘Haikyuu!!’s sudden disappearance will have to be endured. Fans can only hope that the pain will dissipate once the Kapamilya network announces a new schedule for the said anime.

Is Haikyuu!! on the current schedule of Hero TV?

I suggest that the anime in question should be placed on a weekend morning timeslot.

Haikyuu! lasting only one week so far on ABS-CBN brings back memories of a special afternoon block aired over a decade ago on GMA where one anime series per week was shown such as Hyper Police.

(Haikyuu!! currently has one 26-episode season. A second one has been announced last December 2014. Haikyuu!! and Kuroko’s Basketball share the same manga magazine and main anime production studio. Kuroko’s Basketball season 3 is midway through in Japan.)

    • Check Hero TV’s Facebook about the schedule.

As for the schedule of that anime on ABS, it remains to be seen if weekends will be a viable choice. ABS doesn’t air animes on weekends owing to programs such as Salamat Dok, Kabuhayang Swak na Swak and Matanglawin, as well as cartoons like Jimmy Neutron, Spongebob, Max Steel and Superbook. If possible, they should stop airing the Nickelodeon Tagalized cartoons to give way to Haikyuu!! and Kuroko’s.

  2. Nothing can remove her show from that spot, so far, kahit mababang-mababa ang ratings nito. Aside from she being the mother of former President Cory (that returned ABS to their present owners), she also has economic stakes in the broadcast giant.

In fact, Kris’ movie with Vic Sotto and Bimby, My Little Bossings, airs tomorrow afternoon after ASAP. This means, Kris has never really left the Sunday time slot of ABS.

      • Again if you’re not aware, Haikyuu!! now airs on your favorite day, SUNDAY!!! Even if it moved to a new timeslot, there is no doubt that anime fans of ABS still leave a bitter taste in their mouths regarding the sudden disappearance and relocation of Haikyuu!!.

Obviously a lot of extracurricular activities are currently happening on the Kapamilya camp every weekday morning, that’s why Team Animazing is being snubbed. If you know these things already, then there’s no reason to see why.

And Kris? Obvious naman diba, so wala nang ibang paguusapan tungkol sa kanya.
