The only classic hits FM station in Metro Manila gets even younger.

No, Retro 105.9 DCG-FM is not bringing back 90s songs on its playlist. Instead, they decided to hold auditions for new DJs in an effort to plug in some holes to their lineup.

Prospects aged 20-25 years old can submit their demos to retrodcgfm@gmail.com, provided that they have the humor and wits to go along with their knowledge and fascination for 70s and 80s music. The latter portion is very important, because there are some younger listeners who appreciate old school music from decades past.

The audition process for new Retro 105.9 jocks are currently underway as of today.

Getting some young and fresh blood should at least relieve the pressure off of the station’s veteran-laden staff. It can also give prospects an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the industry with some of radio’s greatest voices, such as Joshua, Jimmy Jam, The Triggerman, and Andy Tuna.

The search for the newest Retro 105.9 jocks is a wise move on the part of management. The existing on-air staff aren’t getting any younger, so the need for new talent is a must going forward.

It might be a good move for Retro 105.9 DCG-FM in order for them to prosper. Learning from these veterans will be a big plus for the newbies, in order for these new jocks to be a better radio DJs in the near future.

    • Indeed. With all that automated space, the last thing they need to do is to sell these to the prospects, in order to learn the ins and outs of FM radio, which is a good thing.

Sayang, oh. Kinapos lang ako ng isang taon to be a 20-year-old aspirant. 19 lang kasi ako. So ang qualified dito is ‘yung mga younger ones with a very nostalgic knowledge about music. Pero dapat medyo itinaas pa ang age bracket papuntang 30 years old. Pero it’s a great move. 🙂

    • The reason why 20-25 years old lang is for fresh graduates to audition as soon as they’re done. Not necessarily dapat MassComm ang course nila, as long as maganda ang boses at sense of humor, at may kaalaman sa 70s and 80s music.

The problem is whether there are enough young DJs who understand Retro music. I think they should hire former Magic DJs like DJ Pat who did some Friday Madness before.

    • We might as well give this a shot. It will be better for Retro to do something like this than to pursue veterans who were unwilling to stay long-term. There are definitely some opportunities for youngsters to learn the radio industry, so why not give it a try.

      • James Ty III says:

Other FM stations are going with younger DJs, so Retro had to go with the flow.

Wala na po bang update about auditions this 2016? Even you are still under graduate, makaka-join ka parin ba? I am looking forward in some radio stations before I graduate as a communication student. Sobrang ganda ng offer nyo. Sana continuously nyo yan ginagawa. More power!!!

    • Matagal nang tapos yung auditions ng Retro. Unfortunately, the young jocks couldn’t fit in, so we’re not sure if there’s another audition this year.
