New Host, New Timeslot for Celebrity Playtime

‘Celebrity Playtime’ is on the move.

Starting this Saturday, ‘Celebrity Playtime’ will now be seen at 10:30 p.m., right after ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’. The timeslot change meant that the show will go up against GMA’s ‘Celebrity Bluff’, a game show that ABS-CBN tried to at least emulate when they conceived ‘Celebrity Playtime’.

Its original timeslot will now be occupied by ‘Dance Kids’, a new kid’s talent show hosted by Alex Gonzaga and Robi Domingo. Meanwhile, ‘Celebrity Playtime’ will take over the timeslot of ‘Banana Split’, who moved to Sunday afternoons under the new name of ‘Banana Sundae’.

That is not the only change for the show, however. Due to ABS-CBN’s policy of not allowing its talents to appear on consecutive programs, erstwhile host Billy Crawford has decided to relinquish his duty as host of ‘Celebrity Playtime’, and cede the role to Luis Manzano.

The decision makes sense, since Crawford is already hosting ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’, the show that precedes ‘Celebrity Playtime’. Appearing in consecutive programs may not be helpful to viewers at all for fear of overexposure, hence a strict rule that is implemented by ABS-CBN to all its talents.

Here is the new schedule on ABS-CBN every Saturday night:

6:15 p.m. – Dance Kids

7:00 p.m. – Home Sweetie Home

7:45 p.m. – Maalaala Mo Kaya

9:30 p.m. – Your Face Sounds Familiar

10:30 p.m. – Celebrity Playtime

11:00 p.m. – The Bottomline with Boy Abunda

Now that ‘Celebrity Playtime’ is moving to a later timeslot, viewers should look forward to its long-awaited rivalry with ‘Celebrity Bluff’. The latter show is now on its third year, and has survived competition from ABS-CBN’s reality and talent shows despite the huge odds.

That said, viewers of ‘Celebrity Bluff’ should finally welcome a more equally imposing challenger. ‘Celebrity Playtime’ may be fairly new to many, but it’s also gaining its own following the same way that ‘Celebrity Bluff’ is doing, so let’s see if they’re up to the task of keeping up with the latter.

    • Indeed, imagine if Billy Crawford stayed on both programs. It will last a bit longer for him to dress up instead of the network to go seamless.

They apply the rule of thumb: The hosts are not allowed to jump on the fence from their preceding program.

PTV once didn’t follow where Kathy San Gabriel and Atty. Marc Castrodes, after delivering News@6 on Wednesdays, jumped over to PTV Special Forum.

Today, PTV Sports became a buffer zone from them to jump in.

      • schedule of taping nor “dressing up” is not the issue here, its more of keeping withthe standardsof the network. In GMA, Joey De Leon usually “dress up” for StarTalk when its after EB during saturdays. I can’t remember the time ABS did has done this. Maybe a Vice Ganda concert in Sundays Best after GGV. The most they have done was last Monday when TWBA guested Dawn after the premier of Your My Home.

      • Actually, the “jumping over the fence” is illustrated as this situation: after a live show hosted by A.B., then, he will host again live.

        Hindi ba iyan nakakapagod?

That is the way how ABS-CBN tends to avoid na may point ka. Yung kay Vice at Dawn, the concert and the teleserye filming were both rendered weeks before the televised airing.

      • In the case of ABS-CBN as I’ve remembered, Mariel Rodriguez once did host both Wowowee and Entertainment Live which aired live on saturdays from 2007-2010. so she also goes out early from the first to dress up for the next one.

      • but Celebrity Playtime and YFSF is taped so walang issue sa scheduling ayaw lng ng ABS ang back to back hosting at over exposure, diba kya nga minove ang Home Sweet Home nung nag The Voice si Toni

  1. Well there is a huge reshuffling of schedule this Saturday. Yun CP will air na at 4:45 after ng SOCO meaning swap sila ng Failon Ngayon which will air na sa gabi. Yun Dance Kids will air after Home Sweetie Home on Saturdays and after Goin Bulilit on Sundays.

      • Halatang iiwas sa Celebrity Bluff ang Celebrity Playtime. Honestly, they should’ve not made this change at all. Palapit na rin ang UAAP MBT finals which will surely air on Channel 2 on a Saturday afternoon, and Celebrity Playtime will be sorely affected once the finals begin. As far as we know, ok lang kung ma-preempt ang mga weekend NCA programs ng Dos like Failon Ngayon, SOCO and MKML in favor of the UAAP finals, as long as they don’t touch the higher-interest entertainment programs.

But as far as ABS is concerned though, they wanted Failon Ngayon in the evening slot para matapatan ang I-Witness, since CP’s ratings was badly affected with the move to Banana Split’s timeslot. Still, it’s a 50-50 in the consequence department.
