ABS-CBN, GMA Unveil Christmas Station IDs

Christmas came early for ABS-CBN and GMA.

On Thursday, November 12, both networks unveiled their Christmas station IDs during a broadcast of ‘TV Patrol’ and ’24 Oras’ respectively. ABS-CBN’s slogan for the Christmas season is ‘Thank You for the Love’, while GMA’s slogan is ‘MaGMAhalan Tayo Ngayong Pasko’.

ABS-CBN’s Christmas station ID is sung by the three hottest love teams in LizQuen (Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil), KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla), and JaDine (James Reid and Nadine Lustre), and were joined by Bamboo Mañalac and ‘The Voice Kids’ season 2 winner Elha Nympha.

GMA’s Christmas station ID, on the other hand, was solely sung by Alden Richards.

As always, both networks assembled their contract artists and news personalities for this occasion. Still, much of the attention was centered around ABS-CBN’s aforementioned love teams, and GMA’s accidental pairing that is AlDub (Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza).

Minutes following the premiere, social media quickly took notice of the Christmas station IDs. Despite the presence of AlDub, ‘MaGMAhalan Tayo Ngayong Pasko’ failed to make an impact, as ‘Thank You for the Love’ ended the night as Twitter’s top trending topic both in the Philippines and worldwide.

The same can also be said on YouTube, where ABS-CBN’s Christmas SID received nearly 500,000 more views than GMA’s (as of Monday, November 16). In the end, ‘Thank You for the Love’ proved to be more compelling to viewers than ‘MaGMAhalan Tayo Ngayong Pasko’ upon release.

ABS-CBN and GMA will continue to show an edited version of their Christmas station IDs during commercial breaks for the rest of the year.   1. It seems that the message of GMA’s Christmas Station ID isn’t there at all as GMA Iloilo is now reduced from an originating station to a relay station. Christmas is bleak for GMA Iloilo’s poor employees at hindi na talaga pagmamahal ang mensahe ng Christmas SID ng GMA.

    Ilonggos will have no choice but to watch TV Patrol Panay for local news, as well as radio stations.

    • Hindi talaga proud ang GMA this year, unlike ABS who have the campaign slogans (e.g. Kapamilya Thank You) to prove it. The Christmas SID of theirs don’t reflect on how the network has treated their employees and their regional stations this year. Yes they may have earned, but at the cost of losing some properties.

  3. Its obvious that ABS has done it again. Cinematography, Content wise, they have it. Pati nga yun Pep.ph mas nagandahan sila sa CSID ng ABS kaysa sa partner ng website nila which is GMA.

    • The viewers seem more engaged with ABS’ Christmas SID than GMA’s. The only reason GMA made one is just to capitalize on the popularity of AlDub. But without the necessary message and story, it is doomed to fail.

  4. Mas good vibes ung GMA csid sa akin.. Sorry dun sa mga makados dyan… Yung ibang personalise dyan plastic in real life kaya medyonega.. Pero content wise pinaghandaan ng abs ang csid in HD..

      • Message-wise, though, GMA did not deliver at all. Tuloy ang pagsisante nila at pagbawas ng mga regional outlets. Ganito ba ang ibig sabihin ng ‘MaGMAhalan’? And the only reason they made a Christmas SID ay para lalong ma-boost ang popularity ng AlDub.

        Kung sa tingin mo’y good vibes itong GMA CSID, think again. ABS did a much better job in their CSID, in terms of storytelling and message.

      • Sa totoo lang, mas may sense pa ang desisyon ng GMA na huwag gumawa ng Summer SID kaysa gumawa pa ng Christmas SID dahil sa streamlining, pagbabawas ng regional outlets at pagkalugi.

      • Yun lang sa ibang empleyado di maganda ang streamlining nila.. Pero di lang GMA ang gumagawa nian.. Mas grabe lang ksi biglaan sa GMA.. Hindi sa wala ako concern sa mga empleyado.. Tiningnan ko ang csid na may kurot sa akin.. Alam ko din na may point ka.sa ibang articles mo about GMA.. Pero this time kung saan ko na feel ung sincerity sa napanood ko.. Hindi naman pwede na aayon ako lagi.. We have our own opinion..

    • Kaya nga e. But it is not about how meaningful the message is. It is about bringing the message to a deeper level. And tama din sila, may internal problems ang GMA which other companies will experience but this is media site so they point out more on GMA. And the fact that GMA did this all because of the AlDub fever is truly not a good idea at all. By the way, if GMA can mention God in their CSID it would be meaning but they didn’t mention Him. Truly GMA is still greedy and they can’t even mention GOD. Nasan yun MaGMAhalan tayo e di wala naman yun Panginoon sa kanilang CSID.

      • May mga bagay na hindi dapat masyado laliman sa isang simpleng bagay. Hindi ko sinasabing maging mababaw pero hindi mali yun. Dont make things more complicated. Kung gusto mo csid ng dos so be it. Kung maka dos ka talaga so be it. Csid is the issue.. Not gma or abs employment issues.

  5. I like ABS CSID than GMA, for three simple reasons.
    first, ABS CBN always mention God in their CSID, Which is the true essense of Christmas. And this year I found it through this lines, “Sa Pag-ibig ng Diyos, walang Maiiwanan” nd “Iisang ating Ama, Iisang pag-ibig and nagmula sa kanya” (correct me if I’m wrong with the lyrics). Second, Is it really necessary to emphasize the name of the network a title ng CSID? parang ang redundant lang na ganito “MaGMAhalan…” tapos may logo nila sa baba. siguro, unlike ABS kasi, laging nasa dulo yung signature sound nila kaya marerecognize mo na sakanila yun. Third, based on the titles alone, GMA made me think na “tuwing pasko lang ba dapat magmahalan?”

    but in all fairness to GMA, mas upbeat naman yung kanila kaya masarap din sabayan (though mas LSS ako sa TYFTL) and may line din naman namaganda like “gawin nating pasko ang buong taon”. just my opinion. hehe

      • I also prefer ABS CSID, favorite ko yung part na ngbigay sila ng gifts dun sa mga nagbabantay sa Spratly . It’s sad to think na kahit Christmas na yung message may mga fantards pa din na hinahaluan ng ibang issues. With GMA naman, talagang tino-todo nila yung exposure ng ALdub. Sana wag naman ganun baka magsawa yung mga tao sa kaka-overexpose nila, madali pa naman mag sawa ang pinoy.

Honestly, I liked ABS-CBN’s Christmas station ID more, thanks to its more “nice” and “wonderful” message, and I also use that as a message of thanks to my parents for giving me a lot of love for many years now. More meaningful, more realistic. And, at least, ABS-CBN was able to assemble all of their talents (including those who currently don’t have projects, I guess), while GMA’s selection of talents for their Christmas station ID was selective, while, at the same time, focusing more on AlDub. My opinion.

  7. mas matino ang id ng gma kesa sa abs-cbn. much more meaningful, & most of the talents & personalities (aside from aldub) are there. in my opinion, though.

  8. ABS-CBN’s CSID was written by Thyro and Yumi, the brains behind chart topping hits of Sam Concepcion and James Reid to name a few. That also made the difference. Fresh na fresh ang dating ng song sa ABS. Yung sa GMA parang pinilit lang na meron. Saka magaling maglipsynch ang mga artista ng ABS, which means they found time to rehearse at least, di katulad sa GMA na lagi silang nakukunan ng nakabilog ang bibig (ooh).

    • Pinilit talaga ng GMA na gumawa ng Christmas SID just to prove na relevant pa rin sila kahit may mga obvious financial problems. They’re also trying to make amends with viewers after not making a summer SID last April.

      Too bad it just didn’t work out again.

  9. ABS-CBN’s Christmas Station ID really plays back and forth in my mind though. But I have to admit, theirs is good.

    Talking about GMA’s, at least they utilize all the money that they have for a Christmas ID despite financial problems and the ‘exposure’ of Aldub. But I don’t want to watch their ID though. Because its too

    Speaking of which, I have no idea why ABS-CBN’s christmas ID gets longer and longer year after year. We might be seeing a 15-20 minute ID after that (they might even the break the Guiness World Record for the longest station identification aired on TV) but still, hope the folks there keep it short but still sweet.

  10. I don’t know if TV5 planned it to be different but they released an animated station ID but I have a feeling they will release their true station ID after the Merry Kidsmas promo and the trade launch. (But that animated station was good, simple yet has sense)

    • Apparently the animated Christmas SID of TV5 is their official one for this year. They’re not planning to feature their talents for the CSID since VIVA just took over the entertainment department. In essence, TV5 is trying to alleviate costs a bit for their Christmas SID due to the said transition.

  11. Gusto ko lang ibahagi ang opinyon ko tungkol sa usaping ito:

    Maybe the best measure of who made it better is kung ano ‘yung mas kinakanta ng mga nangangaroling, and it’s too obvious na ABS-CBN ‘yun. I remember just last year at kanina while I was having dinner with my classmates sa carenderia, may mga batang nangaroling sa table namin. Interesting kasi halos parang mashup na ng mga CSID ng ABS-CBN ‘yung kinanta nila, like Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko (2009, by various artists, pinakatumatak sa’kin), Ngayong Pasko, Magniningning ang Pilipino (2010, by Toni Gonzaga & Gary Valenciano), Da Best ang Pasko ng Pilipino (2011, by Maria Aragon), Thank You, ang Babait Ninyo (2014, TVK 1 final 4), at ngayon, nadagdag ang Thank You for the Love (2015, by KathNiel, JaDine, LizQuen, Bamboo, Elha Nympha).

    Siguro ang ABS-CBN sinisigurado nilang tumatak talaga sa puso ng mga Pilipino ang message ng kanta kaya halos lahat ng mga tao marerecall at marerecall talaga ang mga CSID nila, kasi tumatak eh. Ang sa GMA kasi sa napansin kong trend simula nung nagkamalay ako, parang they are making it just to match kung anong meron ang kalaban, compromising the delivery at pagpapahayag ng mensaheng gustong ipaabot sa mga manonood, although I must admit, GMA improved A LOT compared sa mga nakaraang CSID nila at sa mga taong wala talaga silang nilabas na CSID, but still, ang real deal is kung naintindihan ba ng audience ang gusto mong sabihin sa kanila. I believe ang mga CSID parang essay lang ‘yan, dapat may coherence at unity para madaling maintindihan ng readers, o ‘di kaya teacher na may strategy sa pagtuturo, ang mahalaga eh kung naintindihan ba ng mga studyante ang lesson, o mas nahirapan silang intindihin ito.

    ‘Yun po ang opinyon ko, salamat po kung babasahin, iintindihin, at tatanggapin po ninyo nang buo.
