A new Koreanovela will kick things off for GMA Telebabad.
Tonight will be the premiere of ‘The Producers’, a recently-aired Korean drama series starring Kim Soo-hyun, Cha Tae-hyun, Gong Hyo-jin and IU. The series is produced by the same group who created another hit Korean drama in ‘My Love from the Star’.
This brings the total number of current Asianovelas on GMA to three. Two of them (‘Someone Like You’, ‘Ice Adonis’) form part of the network’s Heart of Asia Mornings block.
Unfortunately for GMA, ‘The Producers’ will be up against ‘Pasion de Amor’, the ABS-CBN teleserye that continues to heat up the ratings with each intense scene. Combined with waning interest in the Koreanovela genre, and a programming mismatch ensues between the two shows.
That said, it will be a very tough challenge for GMA and ‘The Producers’ to rekindle the once-popular Koreanovela genre. Whether or not they will accomplish that remains to be seen.
‘The Producers’ airs weeknights at 5:50 p.m., before ’24 Oras’ on GMA Telebabad.
No Televised Broadcast of Miss World
The 2015 Miss World was held last Saturday, with Spain’s Mireia Lalaguna winning the crown. The Philippines’ Miss World representative, Hillarie Parungao, finished in the top ten.
Unfortunately, despite the presence of ‘MariMar’ star and 2013 winner Megan Young as one of the pageant’s hosts, this year’s Miss World was not televised at all in the Philippines. The reason: GMA’s concurrent live broadcast of ‘StarStruck: The Final Judgment’, won by Migo Adecer and Klea Pineda.
There was also no delayed broadcast of the said pageant the following day, as GMA realized it was not worth it given the country’s Miss World bet only made the top ten. News reports were also absent on GMA News programs within days of the event; the only Miss World-related report is of Parungao’s return to the country.
With GMA unable to air this year’s Miss World (even though they aired the Miss World Philippines pageant two months earlier), it may be a better idea for the organizers to find a new network for subsequent Miss World and Miss World Philippines pageants. GMA’s non-commitment to a Miss World broadcast is not a good sign for their relationship, and worse, a black eye for the embattled network.
That said, next year’s Miss World will provide a lot of questions to prospective coverors. Will there ever be another broadcast of Miss World in the Philippines? Only time will tell.
Postscript: Speaking of beauty pageants, congratulations to Pia Wurtzbach for winning the 2015 Miss Universe pageant, albeit with the help of a premature announcement of Miss Colombia’s victory by host Steve Harvey. The victory of the Philippines’ Wurtzbach should help spike the event’s ratings on ABS-CBN this week.
I am disappointed at them. It’s a blow! (Like my quick post you suggested)
Indeed. GMA had the rights but did not fulfill it, either due to circumstances beyond their control, or due to simply not up to the task. Very unfortunate for them.
And for the first time in almost 5 months, wala sa trending list sa pinas ang AlDub because of Miss Universe.
For one day, then, it’s back to normal.
A lot of it still revolves around Steve Harvey’s blunder, thus it continued to trend for hours.
ABS coverage of Miss Universe though is superbly good. They began the broadcast Via Satellite but later on they aired it live from top 10 until the controversial blooper by Steve Harvey.
Just in time for the nation to see it, which is a good sign. Although, many still watched it on either Lifestyle or Star World.
So ano na?
Ang year ender scheduled on that day will be moved either to New Year’s Eve before the simple Salubong 2016 or on January 3.
Let’s just wait for the confirmation through their PR department. They know what to do.
I still watched Miss Universe on Star World, despite ABS-CBN’s delayed-turned-live broadcast (thank you, KrisTV!).
As for Miss World, IDK kung icocover yan ulit ng GMA next year o maghahanap ng bagong tahanan. Kung maghahanap man ng bagong tahanan, TV5 is the only viable option and ABS-CBN is still glued with Miss Universe.
Good luck na lang sa bagong network na magcocover ng Miss World. As for Miss Universe, other people won’t care if it was delayed, as long as it boosted ABS’ ratings on that day.
you got a point but they aired live the rest of the way because of the online voting which is a first in it’s long history. and I heard that instead of airing ads, they air the procedures on how to vote in the online voting. truly ABS-CBN cares for people who bring pride to the Filipino.
Indeed. And the ratings tell the story.
The ratings can be good even if is not “AlDub” type number like 40%-50%.
We’ll have to wait and see.
IMO, HINDI NAMAN MASYADONG MAINGAY AT MAKULAY itong Starstruck’s Final Judgement noong Sabado unlike those reality shows in the other network.
But the good news for the two winners, they will be part of the 2016 remake of Encantadia.
But the question is, will it work? Will the Encantadia remake drain GMA’s finances even more?
Indeed. And even worse, baka hanggang Koreanovela na lang ang bagsak ng GMA kung patuloy itong revenue loss.
StarStruck, to be honest, is a shell of its former self. Madami nang ways para magpasikat, and artista search is not one of them.
For me, mas maingay pa ang nangyari noon Lunes kaysa nangyari noon Sabado!
Back to the topic, social media is powerful tool to show what you got. a simple click from your camera, can make a difference.
Exactly. They’re very influential now, and it also impacts the ratings of a particular show or event.
The Miss Universe replay on ABS-CBN will be aired this Sunday at 9:45 pm followed by the ABS-CBN News Yearender at 11:45 pm with Alvin Elchico, Bernadette Sembrano and Atom Araullo.
Gandang Gabi Vice will be aired at an earlier time slot at 8:45 pm after Rated K.
It’s saddening that GMA did not air the Miss World. Instead, the movie Bridesmaid starring Kristin Wiig was aired on SNBO.
It just so happened that they prioritized the StarStruck finale on the night of Miss World. And since our bet failed to make the top five, they didn’t have the motivation to broadcast it on a delayed basis.
Better luck next year.
No updates yet from GMA as of now if they will have a News Yearender this Sunday night.
Worst-case scenario is that they may air that on Kapuso Primetime Cinema after Telebabad.
Even my parents agreed with your thoughts on “StarStruck”‘s recently-concluded season, adding that it has been so boring (or in Cebuano, sum-ol) for them to watch. Even a StarStruck-related promo sponsored in cooperation with Palmolive Shampoo (I forgot the title, but this promo was used for the recently-concluded season) never worked, either.
And, perhaps “StarStruck” won’t be able to have a chance to get a revival in the future, which we all know is a worst-case scenario.
Artista search like StarStruck is now a thing of the past. They’d rather follow a more realistic approach like PBB.
Count out Starstruck in the future. When Wilma Galvante was with GMA, that show worked.
And I doubt if the Starstruck winners will be cast in Sunday Pinasaya. That show is produced by a blocktimer and not by GMA.
Worst-case for them is to follow the same path that befell Sandara Park and Hero Angeles from SCQ. Best possible scenario is to become freelancers or sign with another management unit.
In any event, there is no future for the StarStruck winners. GMA is simply too much of a mess to start their careers.
I was told by Christian Anasco that GMA already had a news yearender on Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho last week, so it’s likely that GMA will air a movie against the Miss U and the ABS News Yearender.
More like an AlDub-centric year-ender on KMJS. It was essentially Part II of their interview with AlDub.
If they keep on giving AlDub the center of attention, we would likely see GMA enter a state where they depend too much on Koreanovelas. They already have a Koreanovela block in the morning, and now they’re airing another just before 6:00 p.m.
Aldub nga is becoming an overload on all GMA shows. Maine has already guested twice on Alden’s Sunday show.
As always, you only emphasize on SUNDAY!! You forgot about Maine becoming a regular on Princess in the Palace with Ryzza, which is her first dramatic role.
Anyway, it is GMA’s responsibility to get the StarStruck finalists opportunities. Otherwise, Koreanovela Pa More.
I’m talking to you, GMA!)
As for the opportunities of StarStruck winners, the possibility that they will not last long is quite high. As for Koreanovelas, forever alone na lang sila along with PTV 4 sa pageere ng mga Koreanovela.
Tinanong pa siya ni Christian A. tungkol sa kanyang ‘Sunday Pa More’, at iniinsist pa rin niya na mas maraming nanonood tuwing Linggo (obviously an oversight on his part). Now that he’s going to the States, mukhang makaka-move on na rin siya sa gulo. He may not bother us anymore after that.
We already feared the worst, now GMA must prove us wrong, or else.
In fact, Mr. Sunday admitted last year to me that he does not follow Saturday or even weekday TV programs, which translates to the reason why he’s still stuck on Sunday TV guides and programs. I think he is autistic and has down syndrome or a brain disease.
Ako nga, I said to Mr. Sunday on his post yesterday about ABS-CBN’s sked for December 27th that he should stop posting Sunday TV guides “dahil masyadong nakakainis na.” And besides, there’s ClickTheCity.com for daily TV guides (I’ve been saying this many times already), so no need to repost Sunday TV guides.
Going back to the main topic, though, I think it’s been a long time GMA never produced a teleseries for the weekday 5:50-6:30 p.m. timeslot. Poor GMA, focusing on Koreanovelas (pa more!) just to make ends meet.
Actually it’s not a long time. My Mother’s Secret was their last teleserye at the 5:50 slot, and it only ended last August. However, they’ve been inconsistent on that slot the past two years, shuffling between Koreanovelas and teleseryes while ABS continues to rule that slot with teleseryes alone.
If not Koreanovelas, then a movie block may be their only choice. Total they took out the late primetime Koreanovela slot just for movies this past month.
In my viewpont, I find GMA’s airing of a Koreanovela on the pre-24 Oras timeslot as an “alternative,” just for viewers who want to settle down for a bit from watching the very controversial and hot scenes of the rival (alam ko na kung ano ‘yun).
P.S.: Merry Christmas to you, Ralph!
Still, even if it’s an alternative, it sacrifices the talents of others. That’s why nababangko pa rin sila.
Too bad.
Back to Mr. Sunday, since he doesn’t have to worry about us bullying him about Sunday TV guide, he should watch TV in the States everyday, para malaman na niya kung ano talaga ang diperensiya ng TV landscape sa Amerika kaysa sa TV landscape dito sa Pilipinas. The primary reason on why Mr. Sunday decided to move to the US is the political situation here in the country.
I hope he should let go of his old traits ngayong maga-Amerika na siya.
This conversation switched from Starstruck to Mr. Sunday’s future in the States. I wish him well in his future in the States.
Back to the main topic, we would see more Kapuso artists moving to another network in the upcoming year if the problems at GMA won’t fix immediately.
Make-or-break year na talaga ang 2016 for GMA, lalo na sa process ng digitization at HD broadcasts as well as their handling of younger artists.
As for Mr. Sunday, he’ll be missed, lalo na sa mga babaeng nakasalamuha niya tuwing may mga basketball o volleyball games. Now that he’ll be in the States, it would be a different feeling for him since iba ang kultura doon.
