Zanjoe Marudo and Cristine Reyes are back together, on-screen that is.
Their newest project, ‘Tubig at Langis’, will mark the most serious project for the pair. Airing later today on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold, the new series will feature a plot that would test not only the limits of marriage, but also devotion to family and loved ones.
In ‘Tubig at Langis’, Irene (Cristine) was a young woman and a family breadwinner, having been abandoned by her mother as a child. At first, she fell in love with Jaime (Victor Silayan), only to find out that he had already been married to another woman.
A few years later, Irene’s childhood friend Natoy (Zanjoe) returned, and the two fell in love and eventually got married. Unknown to Irene, Natoy soon met and fell in love with Clara (Isabelle Daza), after which things became complicated between the three of them.
‘Tubig at Langis’ also stars Vivian Velez, Lito Pimentel, Nadia Montenegro, Marco Gumabao, Ingrid Dela Paz, Dionne Monsanto, Archie Alemania, and Miguel Vergara. It will be directed by FM Reyes, and produced by the drama unit of Ruel S. Bayani.
The new series will take over the timeslot of ‘All of Me’, whose finale aired last Friday. By all accounts, ‘Tubig at Langis’ should perform respectably like its predecessor, considering the recent streak of good fortune for Kapamilya Gold.
Still, with Cristine Reyes’ marriage to Ali Khatibi taking place days before the series premiere, ‘Tubig at Langis’ may only end up as a short-run series. ABS-CBN can only hope that ‘Tubig at Langis’ can last as long as their creative staff desires, and that Cristine Reyes can stick around while adjusting to life as a married mother.
‘Tubig at Langis’ airs weekdays after ‘Doble Kara’ on ABS-CBN’s Kapamilya Gold.
Yo GMA at ABS-CBN, awat na sa kabitserye. Umayyyy
Mas unique pa kwento nung All of Me eh
Basically every teleserye is a crash course in repetition. The most common storylines, laging inuulit. But viewers don’t mind.
Gets mo?
Aye aye, sir
When it comes to Teleserye innovations here in the Philippines. Locations lang ang napansin ko. Talagang nag eeffort na ang ABS na mag shoot hindi lang sa ibat ibang locations sa Pilipinas but also Abroad. For that, its a Good sign but when it comes to the storyline, naahhh recycled lang. kung meron man konti lang din talaga. Evident sa mga RomCom Series.
Essentially we don’t think we’re capable of doing series na mala-CSI, NCIS or Walking Dead ang dating (thank you expenses). Hanggang ngayon, we’re stuck to love teams, rehashed series, stories about infidelity and third-party relationships, family squabbles, kahit two characters in one artist. It’s these same formulas over and over.
These were the tropes they must stop abusing. They need to think of something entirely new!
Indeed. We need a more balanced programming lineup, but that will depend on the audiences’ reception since they don’t care about the true content of TV shows and instead root for the celebrities that star on it.
Here’s the ratings of the premiere episode of Tubig at Langis (from Kantar):
Tubig At Langis (13.7%) vs. Buena Familia (11.1%)
Impressive.
Tubig at Langis will end this week. It will be replaced by The Greatest Love.
Fact: Dapat sana ang The Greatest Love ang papalit sa timeslot ng We Will Survive
Yes it was supposed to. Instead, they decided to revive the poorly-rated (of late) PBB afternoon edition, which I think is still a bad move since it affects the programming of the regional networks.
As for Tubig at Langis, it had to end because of the upcoming wedding of Isabelle Daza. More on that this week.
Indeed, the poor-rated PBB had affected the regions, it caused regional viewers to miss Magandang Buhay’s last 30 minutes, in favor of the region TV Patrol-affected program.
