Once again, ABS-CBN and GMA have something in store for the holidays.
Tonight at around 8:00 p.m., the two broadcast giants will premiere their annual Christmas station IDs on a near-simultaneous basis. As it has been customary in past years, celebrities and news personalities will star in this short-form video.
The slogan for ABS-CBN’s 2016 Christmas station ID will be ‘Isang Pamilya Tayo Ngayong Pasko’. On the other hand, GMA’s slogan for their Christmas station ID will be ‘Maniwala sa Magic ng Pasko’.
ABS-CBN’s preparations have been in full swing since mid-October. The network released a five-minute recording video of their Christmas station ID on YouTube, which garnered over a million views on YouTube and became a constant trending topic on social media.
The video starred ‘The Voice Kids’ judges Lea Salonga, Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo, and Sharon Cuneta, and former finalists Joshua Oliveros, Lyca Gairanod, Elha Nympha, and Antonnette Tismo. All of them are expected to appear in the actual Christmas station ID later tonight.
Meanwhile, GMA decided to make their preparations for this year’s Christmas station ID as low-key as possible. Last year, Alden Richards sang their Christmas theme; this year it will be Julie Ann San Jose who will lead the way.
GMA will also use 3D-computerized animation for their station ID, a first in Philippine television. But it remains to be seen if GMA’s celebrities and news personalities will be present for the occasion.
The contrasting preparations of the two networks should give the viewers an idea as to who’s Christmas station ID will make the biggest noise. Obviously, with GMA’s low-key approach to their Christmas station ID, ABS-CBN should have an advantage.
Nevertheless, come 7:00 p.m. later tonight, both ABS-CBN and GMA should put out a show for everyone. After all, this is a season of giving.
ABS-CBN’s Christmas station ID will be shown simultaneously on ABS-CBN Channel 2 and its affiliate free TV, digital and cable channels. GMA’s Christmas station ID, on the other hand, will air on both Channel 7 and GMA News TV.
Before 8 p.m., they must be before their primetime block. Night shift differential workers or mobile movers should wait for their respective official video hours after.
I wonder how the rest of the VHF will handle, especially TV5.
Don’t think about TV5 because they won’t do another Christmas SID for all the obvious reasons. Anyway, we’ll just have to wait and see what time will their Christmas SIDs air.
Correction: GMA’s christmas campaign this year will be entitled “Maniwala sa Magic ng Pasko”.
Julie Anne San Jose will rendered a song for the station ID
Well, we’re truly misled. I seriously don’t trust GMA’s poor planning of their Christmas SID this year; they even botched their own slogan.
“GMA also did not issue a press release regarding their station ID. ”
Well, maybe add a little corrections on some parts. May press releases na inilabas sa mga tabloids about the campaign, at ito ang kaunaunahang Christmas Station ID in full 3D animation.

Already corrected. However, I’m disappointed with how they handle their press releases, that’s why I at first wrote that they did not issue such a thing for their Christmas station ID.
It is GMA’s job to issue press releases in advance for all media to post on a regular basis. Unfortunately, they are not like ABS when it comes to constantly issuing such press releases. Again, I’m truly disappointed with them.
No wonder. Their PR Department is a mess, like the Entertainment and News divisions. EVerything’s a mess this year for GMA.
I wonder why they don’t have a PR website like ABS’ for a more organized feel. GMA’s online operations is so cluttered right now.
Correction: ABS-CBN Christmas SID will premiere AFTER TV PATROL. By the way, it will simulcast not only on ABS-CBN, but on its HD-simulcast channel, ANC, DZMM (also on TeleRadyo, DYAB, DXAB, and DYAP), all MOR FM stations, Cinema One, S+A (and S+A HD) and Lifestyle like in previous years. It is also going to be broadcast on TFC and will be uploaded on YT tomorrow.
Already corrected. Also, I already said that it will air SIMULTANEOUSLY on Channel 2 AND its affiliate free TV, cable and digital channels (not to mention radio stations that you added). That’s essentially the shorter version of your comment. Look at the final paragraph and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
As for GMA, IDK if they’ll air theirs at the same time as ABS. 24 Oras usually ends much later than TV Patrol, so we’ll wait and see if they’ll end early and air their Christmas station ID opposite Channel 2’s.
Matthew, according to my friends recently on chat, S+A didn’t go on simulcast for the holiday ID.
Does this violate the “unifying” principle that Ralph wanted?
AFAIK, the official song will be released later on online streaming services such as Spotify.
S+A needed to be excused during that time because they were airing a live Shakey’s V-League semifinal game between Customs and Bali Pure. They’re not compelled to interrupt the said live coverage just for the Christmas SID.
Had the two V-League semifinal games end in three sets, S+A would have joined. Alas, the first game (UST vs. Pocari Sweat) lasted five sets thus they didn’t have enough time to join in.
Another relevant station id/music video ABS-CBN has created. This shows that the filipino spirit will never be compromise. Another knock out given to the Kapuso Network which is actually more like a 30 second commercial to me.
I’m truly disappointed with GMA’s presentation. Although it’s in 3D animation and tells its own story, it’s not like the SID that ABS truly created, with celebrities, newscasters and a theme. It’s treated like a short film.
It’s obvious that GMA has gone the cheap route. Sad, but true.
Bro, 3D animation was never cheap. And it’s just one of many 3D shorts they made.
They took a different route, much like what ABS did with their documentary-like CSID.
Sorry about that. GMA should have clarified their intentions earlier when it comes to their Christmas presentation. It’s just unfortunate that their planning is very inconsistent at times.
Hindi pa rin nagpapahuli ang Singko sa Christmas SID bandwagon. Sa Linggo na ang pag-ere ng kanilang CSID during PBA games
Well, this is unexpected considering yung mga problema nila the past year.
