Seems like GMA is producing its own ‘Sunday PinaSaya’ for Saturday nights.
Hoping to make good use of their otherwise lethargic Saturday primetime lineup, GMA decided to go all out and unveil a new comedy-musical variety show. The show is called ‘Full House Tonight’, and its lead host is none other than Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.
Yes, Regine is still with Channel 7 (she also hosts ‘Sarap Diva’ on the same channel) even as her husband Ogie Alcasid moved over to archrival ABS-CBN in order to become a judge on ‘It’s Showtime’ and ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids’. Talk about a divorce of the professional kind.
Anyway, ‘Full House Tonight’ will feature a mix of sketches, improvisational comedy, parody and stand-up comedy with a hint of stage musical performances thrown in for good measure. Of course, there will be some special guests to spice up the show.
In essence, ‘Full House Tonight’ is ‘Sunday PinaSaya’ on a Saturday night, or perhaps more like a Filipino working man’s version of NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’. At worst it could be another ‘Comedy Central Market’ or ‘Comedy Bar’.
‘Full House Tonight’ will also feature Solenn Heussaff, Bianca Umali, Miguel Tanfelix and Joross Gamboa as Regine’s co-hosts. They will be joined by comedians Philip Lazaro, Kim Idol, Terry Gian, Sarah Brakensiek, Tammy Brown, and Nar Cabico.
A daunting task lies ahead for ‘Full House Tonight’ as they begin their run this Saturday. The show will premiere against ‘Pinoy Big Brother: Lucky 7’, and based on the latter’s strong ratings as it nears its conclusion, there is no doubt that ‘Full House Tonight’ will have its hands full in trying to win this battle.
It will be interesting to see how ‘Full House Tonight’ can reinvigorate GMA’s Sabado Star Power primetime. The show may have an interesting and novel format, but it will be up to the viewers to judge.
‘Full House Tonight’ airs every Saturday night after ‘Magpakailanman’ on GMA.
They might as well revive Celebrity Bluff because that’s the only good show they have on Saturday night. Full House Tonight is an absolute joke, period.
Speaking of Celebrity Bluff, the show will return to GMA soon.
However, GMA said that they’ll air it on weekdays, timeslot TBD.
I am very disappointed with this. They could have followed the format of S.O.P. or Walang Tulugan and give their remaining singers/dancers the exposure they lost after yielding Sunday noontime slot to Sunday PinaSaya. But look, not-so-famous stand-up comedians crowded the show.
That’s the problem when GMA poorly trains its talents. The quality of their shows decline because of this. Now they’re scrambling to make shows just to give their underused talents a chance.
That’s why hindi maganda ang naging takbo ng Artist Center because they don’t have what it takes to create careers out of them.
Problem is, which artists will they go to? There’s just not enough quality in them. It’s been that way since Lilybeth Rasonable took over, and as long as she’s in charge, GMA’s problems will linger.
Pinasaya at Full House Tonight.
To be honest, I don’t understand the motives of Ms. Rasonable. Either she’s brave or foolish to turn things around. However, as we’ve seen in recent years, her presence seems to destroy GMA instead of growing them. No matter what AGB Nielsen says, GMA can never be successful as long as she’s in charge.
Full House Tonight is one example of her being brave to experiment. However, her decision to emphasize amateur comedians is questionable and desperate considering GMA’s poor history of talent development. Hence, this show has the potential to fail.
I’d rather have Celebrity Bluff back instead of FHT. The affected performers should just consider leaving GMA and join other record companies because they don’t have any future there. Besides concerts and promotional tours are other ways to effectively connect with the audience.
It really shows na madami talagang kulang ang Artist Center when it comes to talent development. They don’t even have stars-in-waiting at this point, especially child stars that ABS continues to breed through Goin’ Bulilit and other means. Wala talagang future ang GMA at this point when it comes to upcoming stars.
No wonder. GMA Artist Center is a mess. Their last resort is to incorporate amateur comedians to the show. As I scan the comments section, nagmistulang Sunday Pinasaya copycat ang Full House Tonight.
GMA is trying to make a Pinoy version of Saturday Night Live, kaso ang layo ng agwat. I don’t understand what their true motives were at this point. They simply keep on sinking.
