Kimerald’s Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin Relegated to Late Mornings

Seems like the reunited Kimerald will have to pay their dues in the late mornings.

Once a successful duo on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida, the tandem of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson will now take their act to the 11:30 a.m. slot with a new series that centers around the world of triathlon. This new series is called ‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin’.

Starring alongside another tandem in Jake Cuenca and Coleen Garcia, ‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin’ centers around childhood friends Bianca (Kim) and Gabriel (Gerald), both of whom aspire to become successful triathletes in order to support their families.

Along the way, the duo encounter some obstacles that will test their love for each other. ‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin’ will feature the following storylines:

  • Bianca distances herself from Gabriel in hopes of saving her father’s life
  • After a long period of separation, Bianca and Gabriel met anew in a triathlon event headlined by Carlos (Jake), a top triathlete in the country
  • Carlos hires Bianca as an endorser of Tigershark, then falls in love with her to the dismay of his ex-girlfriend Isabelle (Coleen)
  • Carlos and Gabriel become archrivals in both triathlon and in Bianca’s heart, but some secrets from the past soon threaten their lives

‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin’ will also star Gina Pareño, Bing Loyzaga, Ayen Munji-Laurel, Michael De Mesa, Daniel Fernando, Dante Rivero, Nicco Manalo, Ivan Carapiet, Andrea Brillantes, and Grae Fernandez. The series will be directed by Dan Villegas and Onat Diaz.

Unlike previous romantic late-morning series in ‘Be Careful with My Heart’ and ‘Be My Lady’, ‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin’ will have a more serious tone that is uncharacteristic for the slot. The storyline would have been a perfect fit for primetime, but with no slots available at the moment, ABS-CBN has no choice but to place this series before noontime.

Still, considering the past success of the Kapamilya network at the said slot, ratings should not be a problem for ‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin’. That said, the network only hope to see the viewers fall in love with this pensive drama.

‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin airs weekdays before ‘It’s Showtime’ on ABS-CBN’s PrimeTanghali.

  1. Even though the kimerald duo last project together was a success their individual projects didn’t lived up to expectations. Accdg to an insider management unanimously voted Pusong Ligaw for KG given that it has a better story after they preview both. ILAI was created to fit for primetime but management were not high on ILAI’s storyline and production costs. Making it harder for Dreamscape to argue for a delayed telecast to fit for a primetime slot. This is also the reason why AP got an extension.

    • Vince says:

Really? Though I’m not high on the story either. I though it was placed there to help IS falling ratings.
Pusong Ligaw is really good so I understand their decision.
Do you have any info regarding The Promise of Forever? It has been almost a year since they started filming and Paulo already has a new show yet no airdate. Is Dreamcape still fighting for Primetime or it got shelved?

      • Promise of Forever is slated to replace the Better Half or WildFlower depends on the “Management’s Preview”. His other show – Victims of Love is slated for Primetime though. Promise of Forever is too costly to be shelved. Currently here are the shows slated for Primetime:
        Bagani
        La Luna Sangre
        Victims of Love
        Might be slated for Primetime
        Promise of Forever
        Kung Kailangan Mo Ako

      • Vince says:

Maliban sa Bagani, mukhang puro heavy drama nga ang mga upcoming shows ng ABS. Dapat magproduce and SC/GMO ng light shows. Rom com ba yang sa KathNiel?

      • As far as those future teleseryes go, let’s wait till they get the green light for good, probably a week before they indeed premiere. As for ILAI, I would’ve liked the idea of this drama to go up against Ika-6 na Utos, since the latter is just beating the hell out of TNT Kids these days. Given the show’s mature theme, it would’ve been a good fit for Kapamilya Gold instead of pre-noontime. There’s just one too many of them now that might scare the kids and pre-teens out there.

      • There’s really no slot for ILAI, heard that if they didn’t accept the timeslot it will be shelved. Langit Lupa will eventually get an extension though.

      • Well, that’s ABS’ problem. Ika-6 na Utos is winning in the ratings and yet they insist that they must stick to what seems right, which is It’s Showtime airing for 3 hours. Too bad. Even Ipaglaban Mo is now losing thanks to GMA’s gamble of a six-day teleserye.

This is a completely different topic. What are your thoughts on Duterte threatening to block the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise? He said this after he recently signed the law renewing GMA’s franchise.

    • Just as I suspected. People are obviously tired of this overly dramatic formula that runs all day. Someone obviously misses the approach that made Be Careful with My Heart an overwhelming success.
