It’s quite weird that Filipinos like to hold on to old songs. Closer at #5 and 24K Magic at #9 and there’s more old songs in the whole Hot 100. It’s also sad that very few OPM songs got in the Hot 100 and they have to create a separate local chart to accomodate their very low positions.
OPM enthusiasm is very low right now. Promoting this genre has never been easy given the majority’s colonial mentality. Not to mention that introducing ‘pure’ artists (those who focus exclusively in music) are few and far between.
Also, getting introduced to new songs here is a slow process. That’s why this chart still has some old songs mixed into it. Billboard PH relies on YouTube, Spotify and iTunes to get info, and they don’t even rely on radio airplay since data reports on airplay data does not exist.

As much as I want to do that chart, OPM is just a specific brand or genre of music, and not a more generalized type. This is similar to the U.S. where Billboard has its own R&B, rock, country and other genre-specific charts. That said, I’m only featuring Billboard PH’s Hot 100 top 10, with a top local performer inserted here for good measure, because this will make it easier for the public to see which song is the best performer overall in the country.
Maybe someday a Filipino will top the Billboard PH Hot 100, but it will take some time and increased listener and viewer appeal to make it happen.
