Faith Restored: Halik’s High Ratings a Godsend for ABS-CBN Primetime Bida

ABS-CBN finally got it right.

It turns out ‘Halik’ was the series ABS-CBN needed to resuscitate the fortunes of its much-maligned fourth slot on Primetime Bida. The October 25 episode of ‘Halik’ garnered a series-high 27.1% rating according to Kantar, besting rival series ‘Pamilya Roces’ by 16.5%.

The episode in question featured an intense confrontation between Lino (Jericho Rosales) and Ace (Sam Milby) over the latter’s act of cheating. During that scene, Lino caught Ace and Jade (Yam Concepcion) cheating on him and Jacky (Yen Santos), leading to a fight between Lino and Ace.

‘Halik’ also became the most-viewed program on iWant TV, reaching over two million views per week. Thursday’s episode also trended on Twitter and memes related to the aforementioned confrontation scene also spread on social media.

In many ways, this episode of ‘Halik’ encapsulates what the fourth slot of Primetime Bida is all about. For Kapamilya audiences here and abroad, this timeslot always tingle their senses whenever they see scenes of confrontation, jealousy, anger, sensuality and desire.

No offense to the lighter-themed dramas that were aired on the fourth slot (e.g. ‘On the Wings of Love’, ‘A Love to Last’), but it is obvious that viewers wanted something that will keep them awake and tense deep into the night. And if ‘Halik”s ratings are of any indication, they are probably right in their assessment.

First aired on August 13, ‘Halik”s ratings have been on a gradual upswing from the start. The series started with an 18.2% rating during its debut, reached 20% by the end of August, and peaked at 27.1% last Thursday.

That said, it will not be a surprise to see ‘Halik’ reach 30% in the near future. This series has been by far ABS-CBN’s best offering in the fourth slot and if it continues to please audiences, it might as well enjoy a long and fruitful run.

Kudos to the team behind Halik. Basically, heavy drama talaga ang right formula para sa fourth slot ng Primetime Bida ng ABS like The Legal Wife and The Good Son.

      • Pero mas madalang maglabas ang AGB ng ratings kesa sa Kantar, and only in select shows. That’s the problem with their system, hindi sila as consistent na maglabas ng figures.

You can rebut all you want pero honestly hindi talaga mapagkakatiwalaan ang AGB at this point.

Oo naman. Alam mo ba na nagdadag sila ng panel homes I think last week kasi karamihan sa mga GMA show lugmok lalo na Primetime at nung bumalik yung ratings biglang nanalo yung Pamilya Roces ng isang beses. Sino ba naman maniniwala dun? Yung cheapipay na yun nakaungos sa Halik? Free sardenas & misua pa more.

      • AGB seems desperate to help out GMA at all costs. Kasi let’s face it, madalang lang maging trending ang mga GMA shows sa social media and that also reflects on their ratings performance. Puro Kapamilya shows ang mas trending sa social media and that also reflects on their performance. Sad to say that GMA is not exerting any sort of effort to promote their shows, which hurt their ratings.

What made it worse for GMA is that AGB did not account for VisMin in their tabulations.

      • Kaya nga unreliable ang AGB for all intents and purposes. Inconsistent at kulang ang mga tabulations nila. Obvious naman kung sino ang mas pabor ng bansa noong Linggo, and GMA cannot change that. Same goes to primetime and afternoon (and occasionally morning and late nights).

Ang pagkaintindi ko, ABS is subscribed to both Kantar and AGB. Helps na ABS does win regularly in both.

They’re probably subscribed to AGB for a reason: to prove that the latter’s figures are weak and inconsistent in comparison.

As far as AGB’s other subscribers are concerned, wala na tayong concern tungkol diyan since mga niche stations lang ang mga ito. So leave them out of the discussion.

Akala nila No. 1 sila sa lahat. They’re wrong, dahil most of the time unwise spending ang ginagawa nila. Kaya tingnan mo sila, palpak in most aspects, lalo na sa talent development at film and music production.

Iba ito sa ABS. Hindi na nila kailangang sabihin na No. 1 sila because they proved it humbly and silently. Their expanded business repertoire (e.g. cable, satellite, on-demand app/website) easily puts them in the leaderboard.

    • Vince says:
