My Faithful Husband Down to Last Three Weeks

The series that premiered on the same night as ‘On the Wings of Love’ is down to its last three weeks.

‘My Faithful Husband’, the GMA teleserye starring Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo, will air its final episode on November 13. The series’ replacement is yet to be determined, but there is talk that ‘Little Nanay’, and not ‘Wish I May’, would replace ‘My Faithful Husband’.

Premiering on August 10, ‘My Faithful Husband’ was supposed to be Jen’s small-screen comeback following her blockbuster film success with ‘English Only, Please’. Unfortunately, the series premiered alongside ABS-CBN’s ‘On the Wings of Love, which starred an equally successful but younger big-screen duo in James Reid and Nadine Lustre.

The entry of JaDine was bad timing for the Kapuso network. The timeslot that ‘On the Wings of Love’ occupied was previously reserved for more mature and sexually-oriented teleseryes, which ‘My Faithful Husband’ typifies.

As expected, ‘My Faithful Husband’ proved to be no match for ‘On the Wings of Love’ in the ratings. Caught in a mismatch, GMA then decided to release some teasers for the upcoming ‘kilig’-oriented drama, ‘Wish I May’, only to hold off the project for the foreseeable future.

Perhaps Jen would be better off focusing on the big screen first, since her recent movie ‘The Pre-Nup’ became a box-office hit, and a teaser for her Metro Manila Film Festival entry ‘Walang Forever’ is also going viral on social media. Pairing with talents from other networks (Derek Ramsey, Sam Milby, Jericho Rosales) may be an even better idea for her.

In any event, ‘My Faithful Husband’ has officially conceded defeat to ‘On the Wings of Love’. And with the latter now extended to early 2016, GMA needs to find another way to halt the momentum of ‘On the Wings of Love’.

On TV5, Quiet is the Name of the Game

A new game show is on its way to TV5. But this is not any ordinary game show.

Enter ‘Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay’, TV5’s latest venture into the game show genre. Hosted by Richard Gomez, the upcoming program is set to premiere this Sunday.

‘Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay’ is part of TV5’s ‘Signal No. 5: Umuulan ng Saya’ campaign that started in July. The new program will replace the recently concluded ‘JasMine’ that starred Jasmine Curtis-Smith.

The concept of the game show is simple. Contestants must accomplish a series of tasks in a short amount of time without setting off the giant noise meter, which rings an alarm if it reaches a certain noise level. Eventually, the goal of the program is to perform each task without any noise in order to win the jackpot prize.

‘Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay’ is produced by Freemantle Media, the same group that brought the Philippine franchise of ‘Killer Karaoke’ to TV5. It will also be the first program in the ‘Quiet Please!’ franchise.

Joining Richard Gomez will be K Brosas, who will provide a lively and humorous take on the game show.

Sunday’s first episode will feature a celebrity cast of contestants. Joining Goma and K on the maiden episode are Derek Ramsey, Alice Dixson and Wendell Ramos of ‘Team Sexy’, and Anjo Yllana, Joey Marquez and Snooky Serna as ‘Team BFF’.

‘Quiet Please! Bawal ang Maingay’ airs every Sunday on TV5, right after ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ and before ‘Wow Mali Lakas ng Tama’.

TV5’s Busy February

TV5’s February highlight will be the historic first broadcast of the Winter Olympics, which will be held at Sochi, Russia this month.

The month of February will be TV5’s busiest month so far. And it does not include the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup playoffs and other current programs.

Yesterday morning, the Super Bowl was aired on the Kapatid network. The championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos, along with the halftime performance of Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, were a social media hit during and after the event. The game was carried by TV5 and sister stations AksyonTV and Hyper, and was also shown on PLDT’s Home Fibr TVolution subscription service.

TV5 will also present the Studio5 Original Movies this month. For its first offering tonight, Alice Dixson and Mark Neumann will join forces in ‘Lady Next Door’. Afterwards, the tandem ‘Guy and Pip’ (Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III) will reunite on the shortie ‘When I Fall in Love’, followed by Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Daniel Matsunaga in ‘The Replacement Bride’, before finishing the mini-series with ‘Bawat Sandali’, featuring an all-star cast consisting of Derek Ramsey, Angel Aquino, Yul Servo, Mylene Dizon, and Philip Salvador. Studio5 Original Movies air on each Tuesday of the month after ‘Madam Chairman’.

TV5 will also make history by airing the Winter Olympics for the first time. This year’s event will be in Sochi, Russia, and will attract over 2,500 athletes, including the lone Philippine representative in figure skater Michael Christian Martinez. The event will be held from February 8 to 24 (Manila time), and will be seen on TV5 and sister stations AksyonTV and Hyper. In addition, PLDT’s broadband internet service will bring extended coverage to the event.

TV5’s other major sports event for the month will be the ‘Ronda Pilipinas’. The event began last February 1, and highlights of the race will be seen on a daily basis until February 16. And finally, the NCAA volleyball tournament reaches its conclusion this week with the airing of the finals of the men’s and women’s event.

This is definitely one hectic month for TV5 management. Now if they can start sorting out the mess that is the programming schedules, then the viewers will be happy and interested.
