Long Overdue: JoshLia Stars in Ngayon at Kailanman

Call it an ‘I wish they should have done this a long time ago’ moment.

The love team of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto have been in the headlines for as long as fans can remember. But while they made some noise in films like ‘Unexpectedly Yours’, ‘Vince and Kath and James’ and ‘Love You to the Stars and Back’, their chemistry has yet to be tested on television.

To their credit, Joshua and Julia already starred in a few teleseryes individually (most recently Julia was included in ‘A Love to Last’ while Joshua last appeared in ‘The Good Son’). However, the incoming teleserye ‘Ngayon at Kailanman’ will mark the first series in which the two are on the same script.

“Ngayon at Kailanman” is an ode to classic Filipino teleseryes about star-crossed lovers, who must fight the odds to be together. It stars Joshua as Inno, an heir of the powerful Cortes clan, and Julia as Eva, a streetwise girl who grew up in the slums.

Though they are from different worlds, destiny will bring them together but also tear them apart. While their love will be tested by the Cortes family and the mystery surrounding the identity of Eva, it is up to them to decide what they are willing to risk for their love.

‘Ngayon at Kailanman’ will also mark the return of legendary actress Rosemarie Gil on the small screen as the matriarch to the Cortes clan. Completing the entire cast are Rio Locsin, Iza Calzado, Christian Vasquez, Alice Dixon, Ina Raymundo, Dominic Ocha, TJ Trinidad, Jameson Blake and Joao Constancia.

For all their success in film, Joshua and Julia will have their hands full connecting with the ever-demanding world of primetime television. After all, ‘Ngayon at Kailanman”s predecessor ‘Bagani’ failed to make an impact in spite of its impressive ratings, which only puts great pressure on JoshLia to succeed.

That said, the expectations to excel will be of huge importance to ‘Ngayon at Kailanman’. The series should be more than satisfied in reaching 30% ratings or better during its run, but if it goes below that on a regular basis, then it will be trouble for ABS-CBN.

Directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar and Elfren Vibar, ‘Ngayon at Kailanman’ airs after ‘Ang Probinsyano’ on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.

  1. Indeed, as you wish you should have written this a long time ago had not been time-strapped and constraint to one post per teleserye on the network’s “Day of the Stars.”

Not to mention, two holidays in one day tomorrow.

    • I’m SO PISSED OFF WITH YOU!!! If I were you, why don’t you do the teleserye preview and review stuff for me on your own blog and I’ll reblog it for a change. You’re messing with my own business.

      • *grabs popcorn

Abangan ang susunod na kabanata ng Ralph vs. Timow.

Timow should focus somewhere else instead of copying someone’s style. At least my blog is now inactive and might shift focus soon.

As for JoshLia, this test is long overdue for them. Let them give a chance to survive Primetime.

      • He should’ve not messed with what I plan to do with my blog in the first place. He has his own so why bother.

I’m going to write a rant about him tomorrow and put him in my place. Not even his apology will be enough to erase the damage.

P.S. Just kidding about that rant. Pero kung ako sa’yo, don’t make this argument a big deal. It’s just between me and Timow and you are not part of the conversation.

Mukhang NAK is off to a good start kasi talo ang Onanay mapa Kantar o AGB (in contrast to Bagani which was winning on Kantar but losing on AGB towards the end). Though considering what happened to Bagani and SIFY, I guess it’s still too soon to know if this will be a trend or merely false hope. Besides, the premiere had something like 31% or 32% on Kantar.

Disappointing ang ratings niya for me lalo na ngayong lumakas ang Halik. Baket ba hirap ang show na ito na maintain ang 30s na ratings? Sandwiched na siya ng dalawang malakas na show. Ano bang kulang?

    • Perhaps may mga haters rin ang JoshLia. There is also a sympathy factor for the opposing show Onanay since yung main star nito ay unano. Then again hindi naman close ang pagitan ng dalawang programa.

      • Medyo konti lang naman ang drop-off though. Still, the only problem that holds Halik back is its theme na medyo mature at hindi pang-bata. Kaya imposible silang magpalit ng timeslot with Ngayon at Kailanman kahit na maganda ratings nito.

That said, mukhang mas bagay pa sa sinehan ang JoshLia kesa sa TV. Doon lang sila pumapatok. Very disappointing nga talaga.

      • Vince says:

Natalo ng Halik yung NAK noong Monday. Dapat na yata palitan yang NAK ng bagong show sa January. Halik should stay sa 3rd slot.

      • Technically fourth slot ang Halik since Primetime Bida starts with Meteor Garden (excluding diyan ang TV Patrol). Anyway you’re right. NAK should be replaced. After all JoshLia is not a good fit for TV audiences. Pang-pelikula lang ang draw nila. Pero saan sila pupulot ng kapalit? Hindi pwede na KathNiel or LizQuen uli ang bibida sa third slot out of fear of overexposure and typecasting. Hindi rin pwede JaDine since nalaos kaagad sila with TIMY. We’ll just wait and see what move will ABS pull out next, and I hope it’s not one of their love teams again.
