GMA’s weekend programming instability continues.
Last Saturday, the Kapuso network decided to switch the timeslots of ‘Startalk’ and ‘Wish Ko Lang’. As a result, the former now airs at 3:45 p.m. while the latter follows suit.
There is a reason why GMA made another change on Saturday afternoons, and that is the ratings success of ‘Ipaglaban Mo’ on ABS-CBN. Since the legal drama returned to the small screen this past June, it has managed to dominate ‘Startalk’ in both the TNS Kantar and the AGB Nielsen ratings.
This marked ‘Startalk”s third timeslot change this year, compared to only two in their first 18 years. In January, ‘Startalk’ moved to Sunday afternoons in order to compete against ‘Buzz ng Bayan’, only to move back to Saturdays in May following the revival of ‘The Buzz’ and the reunion of Kris Aquino and Boy Abunda.
The latest change now sees ‘Startalk’ airing at a similar timeslot as its rival ‘The Buzz’, only at a different day and on a running time of 45 minutes to an hour. In addition, ‘Startalk’ will now face ‘Failon Ngayon’, another of ABS-CBN’s highly-rated programs.
For ‘Wish Ko Lang’, it marked their third timeslot change in their 12-year history. Typically a late-afternoon program on Saturdays, ‘Wish Ko Lang’ has once moved to early primetime, and now it airs in the mid-afternoon slot.
While ‘Wish Ko Lang’ was a dominant program early in its run, beating similar rivals on ABS-CBN such as ‘Willingly Yours’, ‘Simpleng Hiling’ and ‘Nagmamahal Kapamilya’, the introduction and subsequent success of ‘Failon Ngayon’ saw its viewership numbers gradually decline. Now GMA management can only hope that ‘Wish Ko Lang’ will fare much better against ‘Ipaglaban Mo’.
In all, it was another tweak to GMA’s rather feeble lineup of weekend programs. But it gets even more interesting come this weekend.

GMA is now known for always switching timeslots of its shows. Yung “Ipaglaban Mo” is another Sison bros.’ series on TV after their stint on PTV & GMA News TV. Sana ibalik na lang ang Startalk sa original timeslot nila, after Eat Bulaga. I remember kasi na fave moment ng EB ‘yun, especially when Kiko Magalona was alive pa, he used to shout “Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, seemless na!” kapag patapos na ang EB on Saturdays.
That was back when Startalk is beating up on ABS-CBN Saturday dramas like Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako. But now they were the ones getting beat by a different ABS-CBN drama. Turnabout is indeed fair play.
Perhaps the return of Kris Aquino and subsequent reunion with Boy Abunda on The Buzz is still fresh on the minds of Lolit, Butch, Ricky and Joey, Those two were the reasons why Startalk moved back to Saturday, which unfortunately backfired on their part simply because of a new ABS drama that they introduced, not to mention the continuous shuffling of timeslots. Kung sila na lang sana ang nasa timeslot ng Sunday All Stars (2:30 p.m.), it would have been better for them.
And by the way, Ipaglaban Mo is not new to old ABS viewers, since it aired in the 90s every Sunday afternoon and spawned two Star Cinema films. Ito yung weekend counterpart ng Coney Reyes on Camera back in the day. The PTV program you mentioned is Ikaw at ang Batas, a short three-minute explanation by the Sisons about a particular case. Also, they’re not brothers; Atty. Jose Sison and Jopet Sison are father and son, respectively.
GMA prefers those horror movies on the Sunday afternoon time slot. They know that they cannot beat The Buzz even if Vice Ganda was just a guest host last Sunday.
TV shopping na lang kasi kaysa dalawang horror flicks on weekends. Horror movies won’t cut you out, so why not these infomercials?

Medyo mahina na nga ang appeal ng Startalk nowadays. But the Mother Ignacia-based TV network used to produce “Showbiz Inside Reports” & “ETK” dati just to compete the quartet hosts.

About pala sa suggestions mo to put TV shopping sa GMA, I saw tv5 lasi night (around midnight), airing shopjapan.ph paid programming na TV shopping abut Japanese-made products.
Coney Reyes on Camera aired on ABS-CBN during the early 90s; magkasabay pa sila with Eat Bulaga since TAPE was the producer of both programs.
Yung Startalk at The Buzz lang ang hindi matinag. Which is why both networks’ other attempts at a showbiz news program simultaneous to both of them (e.g. S-Files, Showbiz Central, SIR and ETK) did not pan out. Startalk and The Buzz were definitely meant for each other, pero yung GMA masyadong resistant at defiant na pagtapatin ang dalawa.
TV5 has been airing Shop Japan for quite some time. Same for ABS and their O Shopping. Yung GMA na lang ang kulang with regards to airing infomercials.
The frequent timeslot changes apply to anime aired by GMA, too.
Meanwhile, according to the latest Kantar ratings data, Imbestigador beats S.O.C.O. It seems that Imbestigador is doing well in its new timeslot.
And Failon Ngayon and Wish Ko Lang were tied according to the Kantar Ratings data for August 9, 2014.
Rare win for GMA in Kantar. Pero hindi pa rin sila masaya o kuntento with that, kaya nag-palit timeslot uli ang Wish Ko Lang and Startalk. I presume that the two programs’ lack of success against their opponents was the reason for the switch.
Regarding Imbestigador, it was a slow start for them upon moving to Saturday afternoons. After all, lagi silang nilalampaso ni Vice Ganda. But they finally got a more favorable matchup with SOCO, and yes, they did well even though it was obvious that Imbestigador is now copying most aspects of SOCO’s style.

Dapat palipatin na nga kasi ang Eat Bulaga at The Ryzza Mae Show sa GMA Network Center Annex Bldg. maraming nagrequest ng mga tao o viewers kaso etong GMA at TAPE Management ini-ignore nila ang requests or petitions ng mga tao o viewers sa kanila, sa dedma lang. Nagtayo ng GMA-7 ng bagong studio/building nila sa EDSA sa headquarters nila para dun ilipat ng mga GMA shows na galing GMA Broadway Studio at yung isang studio ng GMA sa Makati yung Filmex Studio tapos hindi nga nila pinalipat ang Eat Bulaga sa GMA Network Center NAKAKADISAPPOINT TALAGA!

tapos eto pa! napapabalitaan natin yun na gigibain na ang Broadway Centrum at tatayuan na ng condominium hanggang Dec. ngayon taon 2014 ang umuupa sa Broadway Centrum kasama dun yung GMA-7 Eat Bulaga na nakalocate sa Eastside Studio, tatapusin na yon! saan lilipat ang Eat Bulaga (sa bagong studio) by next year PROBLEMADO NA YAN! kawawa naman ang Eat Bulaga.

Tingnan natin yung next plan of action ng TAPE and GMA regarding the next home of Eat Bulaga. Kaya hindi pa sumasagot ang parehong kampo dahil they want to expire their Broadway lease first.
nagtitipid na ata ang TAPE, Inc. ngayon nag co-cost cutting na ata ngayon ang TAPE kaya hindi na cla nagpapaguest na artists sa EB para magperform sa opening no. every sat. kaya nagtyatyaga na lang sila kina dasuri, shine at richard hwan na lang nagpeperfoem sa opening n. ng EB every saturdays.
Hindi naman every Saturday, dude. May paminsan-minsan pa ring celebrity guesting sa EB during opening dance numbers. Pero yung episode kahapon, pre-taped, hindi LIVE. As in tinape na nila to a few days ago. Kaya hindi muna sila nagkaroon ng celebrity performers.
Why wasn’t EB live yesterday?
I don’t know. Wala naman silang naka-advertise na overseas tour.

After the move, Wish Mo Lang’s format downgraded from a wish-granting program (just like Mutya ng Masa) into a drama similar to Magpakailanman.
